„All hands on“

„All hands on“ , Museum of European Cultures, Berlin

Basketry is a cultural technique that is thousands of years old, practised worldwide, regionally distinctive and still a handicraft in the truest sense of the word. Humans alone have mastered the complex weaving method, with no machine capable of replacing their artisanship. The exhibition focuses on this fascinating skill and reveals the interconnections between historically evolved knowledge and modern innovations.

For weaving, you need one thing above all: patience, in addition to your hands. What materials can you use for weaving, and what is created in the process? In the exhibition, you will be surprised by techniques and objects. In the workshop area, various materials, tools, and instructions are available to you.

During the summer holidays, the garden of the Museum of European Cultures becomes an open-air studio. Weaving and building take place at family tables. Inspiration is provided by the objects in the exhibition "ALL HANDS ON: Weaving," which offer children and their adult companions different perspectives.
